Melanie Hernandez

Melanie Hernandez is a Mexican-American author and educator born and raised in Texas. She writes stories and journals that celebrate Chicana identity, Latino heritage, and Mexican-American culture.

Her poetry series, A Chicana’s Lens, uses simple yet powerful language to inspire reflection, emotion, and cultural pride. She is also the creator of the Dream Big Mija journals — interactive journals filled with colorful images, dichos, and cultural sayings that spark memories of growing up in a Latino home.

Melanie has written short stories for young readers, educational workbooks, eBook easy readers, and upcoming children’s picture books designed to support literacy and honor cultural identity.

With a Master’s degree in Education and 20 years of experience as a Special Education Teacher, Melanie continues to work in schools as a Family Engagement Facilitator, helping build stronger connections between families and educators.

When she’s not writing or working in education, Melanie enjoys exploring new coffee shops, taking long drives, caring for elders, reading, and spending time with her family.
