Gloria Allard

I was born in Eastern North Carolina on a small farm where the story of RoyTroy takes place. In my childhood, I watched, followed and learned from my twin brothers who were thirteen months older than me.

I graduated from Clarkton High School and attended Mars Hill College where I met my husband. We were married and I worked to help him continue his education at Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

After two terms of missionary service in Brazil, we returned to the States and lived in Boone, NC where I completed my BS in education at Appalachian State University. We then returned to Brazil and served another four years as missionaries in Northeast Brazil and in Rio de Janeiro.

My husband and I then served as Missionaries in Residence at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NCF and I completed my Master’s degree in Education.

We moved to Morehead City, NC where I taught in Middle School for five years. My interaction with students was both challenging and enlightening. I then moved to a teaching position in the Learning Lab of Carteret Community College. The reward of teaching in a community college was observing students who had a sincere desire to make a better life for themselves and were willing to work hard to fulfill their dreams. After six years at Carteret Community College, I moved to the Raleigh Area and became an algebra teacher at Wake Tech.

The joy and fulfillment of my life has been helping students, being a pastor’s wife, a mother of three wonderful children and the grandmother to four precious grandchildren.

It is so important to be able to read and comprehend even in math, therefore, I decided to write a children’s book that would help students improve their reading.
