As CEO of Sojourners since 2013, Dr. Wilson-Black manages Sojourners to serve its millions of readers and activists. He is a liaison to the World Economic Forum and Aspen Institute, as well as 25 top national foundations and philanthropists who support Sojourners’ 55 staff members. Rob is a graduate of the University of Richmond (BA, MH) and University of Chicago (PhD, AM) under Martin E. Marty. After serving in the administration of the University of Chicago for nearly ten years, he served as a college and seminary vice president for ten years before joining Sojourners in 2009. In 2017 Rob was awarded an honorary doctorate from Franklin College in Indiana for his work as a “scholar, leader and advocate for religion.” He was an editor of the multi-volume Dictionary of Modern American Philosophers, and has taught seminars or given academic talks on campuses throughout the world. He served as founding board chair of the National Museum of American Religion (storyofamericanreligion.org); board chair of the Divinity School Alumni Council at the University of Chicago; former Clerk (President) of the Sidwell Friends School Parents Association and President’s Advisory Board member of the University of Lynchburg. He is an elected member of the Cosmos Club in Washington, DC, and lives in Reston, Va., with his three children and wife, the Reverend Juli Wilson-Black, a Presbyterian minister in Alexandria, Va.
