George Berzsenyi

Dr. George Berzsenyi is Professor Emeritus at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Earlier, he was on the faculty of Lamar University. He was trained as a complex analyst but spent most of his mathematical life working with talented high school students. In addition to the organization of competitions, like the AIME, of which he was in charge for its first 6 years, he initiated programs in talent development. They included the Competition Corner and the USA and International Mathematical Talent Searches. For the latter, he received the Erdős Award from the World Federation of National Mathematics Competitions in 1996. In 2016, he was also recognized with the Gung & Hu Award for Distinguished Service to Mathematics by the Mathematical Association of America. He also served 4 times on the Problems Committee of the Australian Mathematics Competitions and was the subject of a recent interview on National Public Radio.

Dr. Berzsenyi lives in Shorewood, WI with his wife of 56 years. They enjoy traveling, visiting with their children and many grandchildren and pursuing research in genealogy.

In addition to his wife, Kay, Dr. Berzsenyi is most thankful to Dr. Gabriella Pintér and her husband, Dr. István Laukó, professors of mathematics at UWM, who served as co-editors of the book and were instrumental in its production. Their hard work on the solutions and on the organization of the book is most appreciated.
