My purpose in life is to help entrepreneurs achieve their goals. I want to connect with people of integrity, sharing ideas so we can grow our businesses together. But that wasn’t always the case. The story starts with a boy who grew up on a farm. Frustrated with school, I liked to play in the veld with my ‘kettie’, a slingshot. One day, I took my kettie to school to show my friends. They wanted ketties as well and I began selling them, and an entrepreneur was born. As a kid, I may not have liked studying, but I learned a lot about business. And shooting bullseyes.
At college, I finished a twenty-four-month structural steel detailing course in eighteen months. After redrawing many of the training diagrams and helping other students, I stayed on as a trainer for a year. My second job was at a structural steel detailing company. After three years with this organisation, I become a partner. Through the implementation of good systems, which I designed, efficiency tripled, and two years later, the business had grown by sixty percent. When I turned twenty-nine, I sold my shares, for a good profit, in what had now become the biggest business in the structural steel detailing industry. After a year as a coach within a large franchised coaching business, I launched Bertus de Wet Business Coaching.
