A. B. Kyazze

A.B. Kyazze is a British-American writer and photographer. She has spent more than 18 years writing and taking photographs on humanitarian crises across the globe in Angola, where Into the Mouth of the Lion is set, DR Congo and Darfur, where Ahead of the Shadows is set, and other places in Africa, Asia and Southern Europe.

Kyazze's photographs and non-fiction work have been published in travel magazines, The Huffington Post, The Washington Times, The International Review of the Red Cross, and other places. She was long listed for the Mslexia Women’s First Novel Prize in 2017, and was shortlisted for the Virginia Women's Writing Prize with Aurora Books in 2024. She was granted a London Borough of Culture Award in 2022 to run creative writing workshops, and a travel grant from the Society of Authors in 2025.

Short stories by Kyazze have been published in The Great Lakes Review, The National Anthology of Flash Fiction 2019 and 2021 (UK), Byte the Book, and in the three anthologies with Breakthrough Books: Taking Liberties, Order and Chaos, and Elemental.

She lives in Southeast London with her young family, and in addition to photography she enjoys running, reading books set in interesting places, and jazz music. She also has published The Cafe on Manor Lane in August 2024, under the name of Amelia Kyazze.
