Gavriel Rubin spent his early childhood in Stony Brook, NY and his formative years in Stillwater, OK. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Anthropology in 1981.
After spending time as a member of the community of Rabbi Avraham Chaim Lapin in San Jose, CA he moved to Jerusalem, Israel, where he studied under Rabbi Aharon Feldman at Ohr Somayach Yeshiva, Rabbi Yisrael Zev Gustman at Netzach Yisrael Yeshiva and Rabbi Tzvi Kushelevsky at Heichal HaTorah Yeshiva. He later taught for 10 years at Ohr Somayach and tutored at the Beis Yisrael and Toras Moshe Yeshivos for another ten.
After that he embarked in earnest upon his career as a translator/style editor. Some of his better known works include: The Living Nach (translator), Torah, Chazal and Science (research assistant and style editor), With Truth and with Love (translator) and The Bomb Thief and Other Curious Cases (author of the English edition).
Today he delivers a daily daf yomi Talmud class on Zoom, while at the same time working on his own books. He is a resident of the Neve Yaakov neighborhood of Jerusalem.
