Thomas Holton obtained a Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Sociology, Politics and Social Policy from University College Dublin in 1997. During summers he worked in retail, the kitchen of an old Folks home and as a tutor of Mathematics and English to underprivileged teenagers.
He received a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from Dublin City University in 1999. During this time, he tutored Undergraduates on “Writing for Business” Skills. He also wrote a 20,000-word thesis on the philosophical challenges of the Political Ecological Movement.
From 1999 to 2001 he worked as a Life Insurance administrator. During this time, he completed two years towards a professional Diploma in Financial Planning. From 2001 to 2006 he worked in the Irish Civil Service as a Property Taxation Case Manager. From 2006 to 2007 he was a tax advisor in a Chartered Accountants firm.
In 2007 he returned to the Civil Service as a Customer Services Manager. He also gave lectures to colleagues on taxation. He graduated with a Diploma in Applied Taxation from the University of Limerick in 2009. Since 2011, he has worked as a Manager in Human Resources Policy, Payroll, Analytics, and Law.
