Manuel Darío

Manuel Darío was born in La Vega, Dominican Republic, in 1958; son of Saturnino Delgado Marte and Yolanda García Ortiz. He attended elementary school at Burende Elementary and Middle School in his hometown. He traveled to the United States of America at the age of 19. He entered the University of La Guardia (La Guardia Community College) in 1985. Since he was a child, he liked poetry and wrote verses in his school notebooks; In 1979 he wrote his first poem entitled "When you are not here". He has published three books of poetry in New York City; "EScribiendo un poema" (Writing a verse), in 2013, "Simplemente poemas" (Simply poems) and "Mi primer poema" (My first poem), in 2015. He considers himself very romantic and although he writes a lot about nature and daily life, his main sources of inspiration are women and love. One of his favorite writers is the Spaniard poet Federico García Lorca.
