Daniel J Rice

Daniel J. Rice was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 1979 while his father was stationed in Turkey with the U.S. Air Force, where he moved shortly after birth for the first several years of his life. He grew up mostly in Minnesota where he spent his time playing ice hockey and fishing. He strayed from that path during his later teenage years when he joined a street gang and spent many nights in a holding cell. In his early twenties he returned to the hobbies of his youth, and has been known to say that fly fishing, classic literature, and wild wolves saved his life. He has lived in big cities, small rural towns, and remote wilderness. As an entrepreneur he is the founder of: D&C Drywall, Big River Scoop, Jumping Off Point, Farmgirl Pizzeria & Bakery, Riverfeet Press and Riverfeet Fly Fishing. He has edited and published the work of over 200 writers, and is the author of This Side of a Wilderness, The Unpeopled Season, and Young but Free. He is also a contributing writer to the Big Sky Journal annual fly fishing issue, and has been featured in American Fly Fishing Magazine and on the Outdoors Bound TV Show. Currently he is the captain of the Woodboogers recreational hockey team, and lead guide at Riverfeet Fly Fishing. He lives on a secluded river in the Blue Ridge Mountains with his wife and daughter.
