Kate Guthrie

Kate Guthrie is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Bristol. As a cultural historian of twentieth-century music, she is particularly interested in where our ideas about music's meaning and value come from, and why we listen to music in the ways that we do.

Kate completed her BA and MPhil at the University of Cambridge, where she was a member of Gonville and Caius, before moving to King's College London to undertake a PhD. She spent two years at the University of Southampton as a British Academy Post-doctoral Fellow.

Now a part-time academic and full-time mum, Kate lives in Bristol with her partner, her delightful boys and her ginger cat. You can find more of her work at https://bristol.academia.edu/KateGuthrie.
