Joseph E. Murphy, JD, CCEP, is Senior Advisor to Compliance Strategists. For over 40 years, Joe has been a tireless champion of compliance and ethics in organizations and has done compliance work on six continents. He did compliance work in-house for 20 years, and co-founded a company that did online training.

He is Editor of SCCE’s Compliance & Ethics Professional magazine, has served on SCCE’s board, and is SCCE’s Director of Public Policy (pro bono). Joe has been recognized with SCCE’s Compliance and Ethics award, received the Concurrences 2021 Antitrust Compliance Awards, Special Award, and was named one of The National Law Journal’s 50 Governance, Risk and Compliance Trailblazers and Pioneers.

Joe is author or co-author of five books on compliance and ethics, including the first one written about the profession, and the compliance techniques that he wrote about as early as the 1980s are now accepted best practices. Joe has published more than 100 articles, given over 200 presentations in 21 countries and has been quoted by such publications and news sources as the Wall Street Journal, National Law Journal, ABA Journal, CNBC, and Compliance News (Australia.)

Joe has his BA from Rutgers University and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Managing Editor of the Law Review. He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Joe is also an enthusiastic volunteer with historical and arts organizations in his hometown of Haddonfield, NJ. He is a member of the board of the Community Foundation of South Jersey. Joe has combined his decades-long career with his passion for ballroom dance through the creation of the “Society of Dancing Compliance & Ethics Professionals.”
