Arlene Marie Wever—a Dutch national—is the author of the book Flashes of Blessedness. She was born on September 1, 1963 on the Caribbean island of Aruba. When she finished high school on the island of Aruba, she went to study business administration at the University of Tulsa. She graduated in May 1986 from the University of Tulsa with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. Thereafter, she returned to the island of Aruba to live and to work.

The author’s ability to make keen social observations enabled her to write the novel. Her interest in making social observations was born when she took the courses: introduction to sociology, cultural anthropology, and social psychology at the University of Tulsa.

The author chose a Caribbean island and an American university as the settings for the novel because she was familiar with the cultures, landscapes, economies, and the histories of those places. It was the author’s intention that teenage girls learn from the protagonist’s life experiences so they can have wonderful lives.
