Since entering the financial services industry in 1995, I've tackled the topic of personal financial wellbeing in meaningful ways that other authors can't or won't: as a national association leader; as an employee benefits consultant; as an adjunct college professor; as a workplace educator; as an entrepreneur; as a sales rep; and as an employer.
I've helped tens of thousands of people – from factory shop floors to the halls of Congress – understand the valuable connection between workplace resources and personal finance. And my thoughts have been included in prominent media outlets like USA Today, Pensions & Investments, The Street, PLANSPONSOR Magazine, and The Journal of Pension Planning & Compliance.
Having viewed this subject from so many angles, there's nothing more professionally gratifying to me than serving individuals and families as a trusted financial advisor and author. I especially enjoy guiding those that are in the wealth accumulation phase of life and that derive the bulk of their economic vitality by working as traditional employees.
My pioneering contributions to workplace financial education helped garner the highest recognition from The Profit Sharing/401k Council of America. Ten years later, the same organization acknowledged my commitment to helping employers fight to preserve a free enterprise approach to retirement security with a Volunteer Service Award. And my distinguished service as a military instructor led to the receipt of an Ohio Commendation Medal.
I earned the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation from the International Foundation for Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts degree from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. Prior to and early in my career, I served in the U.S. Army Reserves and National Guard.
My wife of 25+ years and I have three kids and a dog. I enjoy family vacations, football, live music, and good coffee.
