I study contemporary Daoist and Buddhist ritual in central Hunan province, PRC, and the intellectual roots of that ritual in the eleventh through fifteenth centuries. I am particularly interested in thinking about these rituals in conversation with modern western theories of ritual, myth, and semiotics. I live in Cambridge, MA.
