Topsy M. Durham

Topsy M. Durham was born in Harlem, raised in Brooklyn, New York. This comprehensive biography of her father, the late jazz pioneer Eddie Durham and The Durham Brothers Orch. is her labor of love.

In 2004 she was granted Honorary Citizenship, and the Key to the City of San Marcos, Texas, Eddie’s birthplace.

She emceed/co-produced the 2004-2006 & 2023 Eddie Durham Music/Heritage Festivals in Eddie Durham Park, Texas.

Manages Swingin’ the Blues! Durham Music Pub'g, overseeing copyrights.

As an activist in the jazz community, she served on the Board of The Intn'l. Women In Jazz, Harlem Swing Dance Society, and AmSong, Inc., a grassroots effort resulting in the Copyright Term Extension Act-1996.

She co-produced several CDs/designed the covers for NewYorkBlues Hall of Famer Michael Powers, her husband.

Articles have appeared in The New York Times, The San Marcos Daily Record, Just Jazz & JazzIs Magazines, and with Michael in the #1 Swedish publication, Jefferson Blues.
