About the Author
Philip Schiavoni is a graduate of Tufts University School of Engineering where his studies focused on complex structural analysis using highly advanced mathematical techniques. Phil went on to earn his Master of Engineering and MBA from Boston University.
Mr. Schiavoni’s graduate thesis US Dynamics dealt with the integration of numerous economic, financial, environmental and social factors affecting the US economy. This early work was the beginning of a distinguished career in strategy development. Many of the same natural forces contained in US Dynamics are evaluated as part of the retirement strategy described in this book.
Phil’s early career was as a consulting engineer in Boston. He later used his analytical skills to help develop Citibank’s consumer banking strategy and to implement the resulting plan, as vice president of bankcard marketing. Mr. Schiavoni served as director of marketing for Oppenheimer Mutual Funds where he developed new mutual fund products. Phil went on to become senior vice president of strategy at GE Capital, responsible for developing a corporate wide redirection strategy necessitated by anticipated tax law changes.
Phil founded the consulting firm of PAS Associates and for more than thirty years advised numerous private equity firms and both public and private companies on strategic innovation. He is particularly adept at developing economic insights driven by rigorous analysis. Phil applied this expertise to evaluate current thinking on traditional retirement accounts.
The genesis of this book was a series of conversations Phil had with his daughter, regarding inevitable trends that would impact her future and eventual retirement. The inherent theme was how best to prepare for life thirty years from today. It became clear that although she was and is a successful doctor, she had little understanding about the underlying forces that will affect her future.
That lack of understanding was the catalyst for Phil to conduct the analysis and to write this book. The writing and publishing of “Where Did Boston Go?” is a means to communicate the wisdom of the strategy to others.
