Paul M. Kaplan

I write under 3 series: Cultural Travel Guides; Social History & Biographies; and Business Marketing.

The Cultural Travel Guides provide an ethnic history and exploration into neighborhoods in New York City and South Florida. I seek to tell the little-known stories behind eateries, museums, places of worship, and community centers while also recounting the histories of Jews and other ethnic groups to these locales. These books have both contemporary and archival photos.

The Social History & Biographies provide historic context and the chronicling of key personages. My biography on Lillian Wald, one of the key healthcare reformers of the 19th century, is a staple of women's and healthcare history. It explores the origins of school playgrounds, school nurses, special education, and even the NAACP originated with Wald and her Henry Street Settlement. My upcoming biography on Irving Berlin chronicles the development of the American musical from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway to film. Another book discusses the Progressive Era (1890-1920) in NY and how it sought to dramatically change society including labor rights, environmentalism, personal income tax, prohibition, and its echoes today. Original Penn Station looks at how and why one of the most beautiful train stations was built in New York to ultimately be torn down 53 years later paving the way for the historic preservation movement.

The Business Marketing has a how-to book for entrepreneurs, marketers, agencies, and non-profits to develop compelling content marketing to boost their brands and generate leads. It focuses on both consumer and B2B.

I have given about 50 book talks globally including at the clubs for Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Union League, private events, libraries, and historic societies.

I have been very honored to have received Kirkus starred reviews and been on NPR, PBS, and CBS Miami programming in addition to newspapers, magazines, and scores of radio shows.

I did my BA in Ethics, Politics, and Economics from Yale College and MBA from Yale School of Management. I have done content marketing/thought leadership, digital media and product strategy for publishing, financial and technology companies including Reader’s Digest, Barnes & Noble, American Express, McGraw-Hill, and Broadridge Financial Solutions.

A fun fact about me is that I have traveled to all 50 US states and to 6 continents. Visit paulkaplanauthor.com
