Don Taylor grew up in Houston, Texas, and received a business degree from the University of Houston. While in school, Don often visited a used book store near Rice University. This was where he began building a library on the American West. He began a career in financial services that allowed him to live and travel throughout the United States. Don first visited Tombstone, Arizona in 1994, and immediately rekindled his interest in the West. In 2003, he moved to Tombstone as the Assistant Park Manager for the Tombstone Courthouse State Historic Park. For the next five years, Don studied every text and resource he could find on Tombstone. This intense education allowed him to publish three books on Tombstone.
Over the years, Don has done many interviews about Tombstone’s history for almost every media. In 2008, Tombstone City Historian Ben Traywick retired as Tombstone City Historian and asked Don to take his place. That same year Don was appointed and sworn in by The Tombstone Mayor and City Council. Don has continued to serve in this position ever since.
