About the Author

Amy Buggle is the founder of DLC Nurse & Learn, a not-for-profit childcare center that serves children with disabilities and medical complications. DLC’s two locations now provide year-round education, nursing care, and therapies to children of all abilities, giving them and their families the opportunity to reach their maximum potential.

Amy Buggle received her bachelor’s degree in special education from University of Florida in 1985, was a Duval County school teacher for four years, and was elected Teacher of the Year at Mt. Herman School in 1989. Amy has worked professionally in the field of special education since 1985, after volunteering with special-needs children since the age of ten. She was the executive director of DLC Nurse & Learn for thirty years and, before retiring in January of 2020, was a Sherwood Smith Award winner in 2012 for her work with children, Eve Award finalist in Education in 2013, and a finalist in 2014 for the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women, Women’s History Award for women who have made a difference in Jacksonville, Florida.

Amy continues to advocate for children with disabilities and their families through her board membership at the Early Learning Coalition of Duval and in the NE Florida community, as well as serve DLC in an advisory capacity.
