David L. Weeks

David L. Weeks was born and raised on the island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. He moved to Maryland in 1985, where he attended Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He wrote his first poem in 1985. David’s poetry focuses on expressing a positive message towards the upliftment of his People and the unity of humanity.

In 2000, David self-published his first book of poetry, titled “ANCIENT TRADITION: Soul Poetry.” David has also been published in various anthologies and publications, including Come Into Our Whirl: A Cyder-Anthology, Liberated Muse Volume II: Creases Expelled from the Fold, December 2001 issue of Essence Magazine, multiple issues of Reggae Report Magazine, Bowie State University yearbooks, and other publications, poetsniche.com (website), and many others. David has performed at spoken word events and poetry readings in Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, and Washington, DC.

David was nominated for The Black Writers Alliances’ 2001 Gold Pen Award in the Best Poetry Collection category for his book “Ancient Tradition: Soul Poetry.”

In 2015, David returned to his home island, St. Croix. He continues to pursue his writing, graphic design, and other activities, including going to the beach.
