Shaun C. Grenan

Detroit-native Shaun C. Grenan has been a history buff since childhood. After high school, he moved to Gettysburg for 14 years, much of it spent working at the battlefield. He has also been in numerous films and documentaries.

His love for all things Zouave came about when he discovered ancestors in the 5th NY Veteran Volunteers—Duryee’s Zouaves, and the 53rd NY Volunteers—D’Epineuil’s Zouaves. This led him to begin research that led to the creation of the Civil War Zouave Database. He also has busied himself with tracing family genealogy to 17th Century Europe and la Grande Recrue de 1653 in Montréal, Canada.

Shaun has written and edited books on the Imperial Guard of Napoléon III, the Battle of the River Raisin, the NY Fire Department, Gettysburg, and much more.

Shaun is a survivor of both lung and pancreatic cancer, and resides in Plymouth, MI, with his wife, their two sons, and their crazy dog, Tillie.
