Mary Mallory

Mary Mallory grew up in the mountainous rural reaches of northern California, immersed in the beauty of Nature. Her parent’s careers and family life emphasized service to people in need and preservation of natural resources, two areas where the Power of the Feminine spirit is strong. Peggy Mallory was a local champion of early childhood education, and James Mallory worked in preserving the native plants of California, and running environmental education camps. Mary’s interests in reading, theater and languages gave her a broad appreciation of human differences, and the deep belief that every person deserves respect and care, not in spite of their differences, but because of their uniqueness.

A career in research psychology and teaching was balanced with dedication to motherhood and community service. Dr. Mallory studied fine arts at Shasta College, and Russian language during enlistment in the US Army. She earned her BA in psychology from the University of California in Santa Barbara, and her MA and PhD in developmental psychology from U.C. Davis, with an emphasis on how self-concept emerges in childhood and changes as we age. She has taught at the University of California, Davis, Fresno State, Chapman University, Shasta College, Brandman University, and National University.

Over 30 years, she held numerous leadership positions in the American Association of University Women, an organization dedicated to equity and education for women and girls. Today her volunteer work includes feeding the hungry, building literacy with Little Free Libraries, and charitable work with the International Order of Odd Fellows.

In her free time, Dr. Mallory delights in gardening, travel, creative arts, visiting grandchildren, and creating a nature preserve on 80 forested acres owned by the Mallory family. She lives in Carmichael, CA, with her husband, Dr. Ron Rogers. Together they have 5 children and 10 grandchildren of whom they are very proud.
