Duncan possesses broad business leadership expertise gained via 25 years of experience in the human resources profession with BP Amoco and GATX Corporation. Following his internal corporate days, Duncan gravitated to consulting where he has provided executive and career coaching, leadership development consulting and thought leadership for two firms, Paris, France based BPI group and Chicago based Vantage Leadership Consulting.
Based on these unique experiences, Duncan has developed an avid interest and contemporary perspective on the changing relationship between organizations, leaders and their employees. Being a former leader of teams, he has continually been intrigued with the role leaders play in motivating, engaging and inspiring those individuals that work for them. This curiosity laid the foundation for co authoring the book, "Best Boss! The Impact of Extraordinary Leaders' Best Boss!", with colleagues Dr. Toni Pristo and John Furcon.
Duncan received his Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State’s College of Social Science and his M.A. degree from Michigan State University’s School of Human Resources and Labor Relations (SHRLR). He actively gives back to his alma mater, where he is the President of the SHRLR Alumni Relations Board, an Advisory Board member for MSU’s College Employment Research Institute, and a founding member of Chicago Spartan Leaders. He has twice been a guest on WGN Radio and has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, Investment Daily and the Chicago Tribune. He wrote a chapter, entitled the 'T Shaped Leader', for the book "Advancing Talent Development: Steps Toward a T-Model Infused Undergraduate Education", which was published by BEP in 2019.
Duncan's roots are deeply planted in the Midwest and Canada. He grew up in Michigan before moving to Chicago where he has lived for many years with his wife, Linda, and before they moved on to their own lives, his two sons, Ryan and Brendan. Duncan is the son of two Canadians, Jim and Jean, and is a proud dual citizen of Canada!
