Will Dodson

Dr. Dodson is a Lecturer of Media Studies at UNC Greensboro and a Media History instructor at North Carolina A&T. He teaches courses on rhetoric, literature, and film, with a focus on exploitation and marginalized literature and cinema. He has published essays on Tod Browning, Wes Craven, Jess Franco, Woody Strode, Hugo Haas and Shirley Jackson, Octavia E. Butler, and various film genres in edited collections and journals including Quarterly Review of Film & Video, Film International, and MONSTRUM. He is the co-editor, with David A. Cook, of The Anthem Series on Exploitation and Industry in Global Cinema, a book series on exploitation films and filmmakers and the various ways in which they have subsidized mainstream cinema and culture and have represented marginalized identities. He is the co-editor with Kristopher Woofter of American Twilight: The Cinema of Tobe Hooper (University of Texas Press, 2021). Dodson and Woofter recorded an audio commentary for the Kino-Lorber Blu-ray release of Tobe Hooper's "I'm Dangerous Tonight," released in 2022. Dodson has contributed audio commentaries and video essays to dozens of Blu-ray releases, most recently "The Spider Labyrinth" (Severin, 2023), "The Swiss Conspiracy" (Film Masters, 2024), "The Zombie Army" (Saturn's Core, 2024), "Door II: Tokyo Diary" (Terror-Vision, 2024), "Kin-Dza-Dza!" (Deaf Crocodile, 2024), "River" (GraveFace Films, 2024), "Nail Gun Massacre" (Terror Vision, 2024), "Right Hand of the Devil" (Film Masters, 2024), and "In the Moscow Slums" (Deaf Crocodile, 2024).
