Nancy Hiemstra

Nancy Hiemstra is a political geographer and Associate Professor in the Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Stony Brook University in Long Island, New York, USA. She co-authored (with Deirdre Conlon) Immigration Detention Inc: The Big Business of Locking Up Migrants (2025, Pluto Press). She is also the author of Detain and Deport: The Chaotic Immigration Enforcement Regime (2019, University of Georgia Press) and the co-editor of Intimate Economies of Immigration Detention (2017, Routledge). She has also authored and co-authored around two dozen journal articles and book chapters.
