Junior Macdonald Beckley

I'm an artist born in Grenoble, France, with origins from Sierra Leone and Chad. Like many of my generation, I grew up with animes and mangas. Also I'm a huge fan of video games. So much that my passion turned me into an artist for videogames, where I've worked in great companies like Ubisoft.

But as much as I love anime and games, I couldn't find that much where I can truly identify my culture as a black man. There are tons of them. But you have to really go deep in your knowledge to find them. And most of them did not find the success they deserve. The same goes even for my own origins. All my life I've got submerged with European and American history, but I had to struggle very hard just to barely have references on Black history. And I'm sad to say that the first and only thing I've learned about Black history at school was slavery, colonisation, poverty and racism. But there is more of Africa than this.

We had great kings, great kingdoms, mythiological creatures, gods, personal figures, and great moments in history. That is why I plan to use my knowledge and my skills in art and through Muntu Warriors to show you my vision of what African culture should be.
