Turning 40 years old last summer was a real slap in the face. I have been writing short tales and long stories since as far back as I can remember and embarrassingly I have the old notebooks to prove it. A year before the pandemic started I told myself I would write every night for at least thirty minutes. Biggest shock, I did it. Though it wasn’t easy I completed my task and finished a story from front to back. The whole piece was written on my phone in my garage. No joke. I have four children under the age of 9 and the only place to hide in a ranch style house with that many bodies in it is the attached garage.

I wrote continuously. The story and characters grew with ease while my thumbs blasted along and my lungs smoked a ton of cigarettes. Then I smoked more as I read things over. Awful, I know. I labored here and there with the concept and direction, but by the end of this amazing adventure the characters did most of the hard work for me. I can not describe the feeling you get when you become all of your stories characters. My mood in real life began changing with whomever I was writing.

The Human Way is about many things, but mainly the way emotions involve themselves into every decision we make. Whether great or disturbing, our emotions ring true to our person. I can only hope you enjoy the ride through the pages and find someone you like within this dense first piece.

Lastly, I will challenge myself again, because I enjoyed this becoming apart of me as the words flowed from my head. Christmas of 2022 I intend to bring another exciting distraction to the readers lives... (whoever you may be).

Much appreciation,

K.A.
