Dina Leifer

Dina Leifer is a children’s author and a literary translator from French and Italian into English. She is a lifelong book lover and has always worked with words: first as a journalist, then as a translator and now as an author too. Her first children's book, And Eddie Had an Egg, won the 2023 Jewish Children’s Book Award and the PJ Library Grinspoon Jewish Story Award.

AND EDDIE HAD AN EGG, published by Green Bean Books with beautiful illustrations by Sharon Spitz, is the story of a little boy who is reluctant to try new foods. Eddie’s mum and dad love to cook special meals for the Jewish festivals and shabbat, but Eddie sticks to what he knows: eggs! One shabbat evening Eddie surprises the whole family and learns that trying new foods can be fun.

“A lovely story for your kids” – Louisa Walters, Jewish News

“A sunny-side up overview of Jewish festivals, for ages two to seven.” – Angela Kiverstein, The Jewish Chronicle

Dina’s translation from French of PROGRESS OR FREEDOM, an exploration of the power of big tech companies by economists Jean-Hervé Lorenzi and Mickäel Berrebi, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2019.

As winner of the Martha Stevens Translation Prize 2025, Dina’s first full-length fiction translation, BEFORE I FORGET by Anne Pauly, will be published by Peirene Press in the UK and Two Lines Press in the US in late 2026.
