Douglas Jowdy PhD

Douglas Jowdy, PhD is a licensed psychologist who specializes in sport psychology and other areas in clinical psychology. Dr. Jowdy is in private practice in Boulder and Denver and holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Colorado Hospital – Denver School of Medicine. He works via TeleHealth. His educational background includes Postdoctoral Training at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Clinical Internship at Denver Health Medical Center, MS and PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University, Research Assistantship at the US Olympic Training Center, MS from Pennsylvania State University and BS from the State University of New York of Cortland. At this time he is a full-time student at the University of Life.

Dr. Jowdy has worked for the US Olympic Committee and served as the team psychologist for US Speed Skating. Apolo Ohno has written about his work with Dr. Jowdy in his autobiography Zero Regrets: Be Greater Than Yesterday. Prior to moving to Boulder, he served as the Department Head of the Sport/Exercise Psychology Program at Argosy University/Phoenix. He has also served as the Co-Director of an Intensive Outpatient Program at Denver Health Medical Center. Dr. Jowdy has published book chapters in Advances in Sport Psychology, Exploring Sport & Exercise Psychology and scientific papers in the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology and the Journal of Counseling Psychology. He has presented at national conferences – Association for Applied Sport Psychology, American Psychological Association, International Society for Neurofeedback and Research, Alliance of Social Workers in Sports, USA Climbing and The Big Sky Sport Psychology Retreat. He is a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the International Society of Neurofeedback and Research and the Caring Clergy Project.

Doug grew up in Niagara Falls, New York and his primary sport was ice hockey. He served as the assistant coach of Penn State Men’s Ice Hockey Team.
