Markus S. Kupka, MD, PhD

Markus S. Kupka is Professor & partner in one of the largest private IVF-centres in Germany.

Since 2002 he serves on the Board and Steering Committee of the German IVF-Registry (DIR).

Since 2008 he serves on the Steering Committee of the European IVF Monitoring Consortium (EIM) of the European Society of Human Reproduction

and Embryology (ESHRE) as chair, board member and special advisor. He is member of various local and national societies and governmental institutions working in the field of medical assisted reproduction.

As a student he already participated in the first ESHRE annual conference 1985 in Bonn/Bad Godesberg.

After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, Bonn University in 1990 he was trained at the University of Bonn and awarded his PhD.

In 2001 he finished a 2 years training in Medical Informatics at the Institute of Medical Biometrics, Informatics and Epidemiology in Bonn. Medical informatics is the scientific field that deals with the storage, retrieval, sharing, and optimal use of biomedical information, data, and knowledge for problem solving and decision making.

With a grant of the German Research Society DFG he worked for one year (2001/2002) at CDC in Atlanta, GA for his project: Tools for Quality Assessment and Quality Management in Assisted Reproductive Techniques.

For 10 years (2002-2012) he served as the Head of the Fertility Workgroup Reproduction Medicine & Endocrinology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.

Dr. Kupka has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and textbooks, and presented lectures extensively on reproductive medicine, the assisted reproductive technologies, infertility and outcomes assessment nationally and internationally.
