Darrell Cocup

Darrell’s life has been shaped by a mix of cultures, careers, and a strong faith. He was born in The Hague to an English father and a mother of Hungarian and Russian heritage. His parents met in Istanbul, where his mother’s family lived and his father was serving in the Royal Navy.

Darrell’s childhood involved a lot of moving around. After being born in The Hague, he lived in Milan until he was four, then moved to Ireland when he was about six or seven. His father stayed in Ireland, while his mother returned to Istanbul. Darrell went to St Columba’s in Dublin, where he spent much of his school years.

As a young adult, Darrell moved to England to train as an engineer. His work took him across the Middle East and Africa, giving him a wide experience of different cultures. Ireland remained important in his life, especially because that’s where he met Anthea in 1986. They married and later had a son, Oli. In 2000, the family settled in Wiltshire, England.

Later, Darrell moved from engineering into marketing, working as a marketing consultant and copywriter. In 2009, he became involved with Bethel’s Sozo inner-healing ministry, combining his communication skills with his growing passion for spiritual ministry.

In 2018 he wrote 'Wonderfully Free,no going back' a book designed to help people continue their healing journey after a Sozo session. The book has since been translated into five languages and has helped many people explore personal freedom and healing.

Darrell and Anthea later launched the Sozo for Couples ministry at Bethel in 2017 alongside Liz Gregg. They also helped produce the 'Sozo for Couples Manual', giving couples tools to strengthen their relationships and find healing together.

Darrell continued writing to support couples and individuals in their faith journeys. His later books include 'Starting Out' (2019), a guide for couples preparing for marriage, and 'Going Deeper' (2021), a devotional aimed at helping couples grow spiritually together. 2025 saw the release of 'Becoming Wholehearted, a Journey into Authenticity' aiming at helping readers learn to live from hearing God in their hearts, rather than from the negative influence of their life experiences. In 2026 'Connecting with Heaven, Sozo on the Prayer Line' was published.

In 2019, Darrell and Anthea founded Wonderfully Free Ministries, through which they run a significent Sozo team, teach Sozo and Sozo for Couples, run workshops, and provide resources for people seeking healing and stronger relationships.

Today, they continue their work while living in Wiltshire. Darrell’s story reflects a life of adaptability, creativity, and faith—bringing together his international upbringing, varied career, and commitment to helping others find healing and connection.

Alongside all this, Darrell has always loved books (a passion he inherited from his mother) and has a long‑standing fascination with vintage cars—though exactly where that came from remains a bit of a mystery.
