Linley Baker grew up in Massachusetts, about 60 miles from where her Hopkins ancestors landed in 1620. After graduating with high honors from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, Linley pursued a successful actuarial career (applied mathematics) in insurance. She earned Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (like a PhD in applied math) at age 25. After becoming a mother, Linley quit corporate work to raise her children, eventually numbering 6, in 4 countries: Japan, China, France, and the US. She is multilingual with Japanese, French, and Spanish abilities. She earned a Master of Music Performance degree from Ball State University while the children were home. Linley returned to her profession in 2012 and in only 5 years she was promoted to full vice president. Linley shares that unconventional career paths are possible—and sometimes better—through her company Linfluence, LLC. Her first book is for everyone: Don't Be Afraid to Do What You Really Want to Do – Reach All Your Life Dreams, available on Amazon. She has a related keynote speech—Reaching Your Life Dreams. Her second book is currently in process: Betrayed, Not Trashed. It is about how to deal with trials like divorce and keep up your self-worth. She already presents a related speech, Finding Grace in Trials, which is a speech hyphenated by classical music that she performs. currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah with Puccini, her Havanese puppy, and works as an actuary and math tutor.
