Chris Young Kelly is an experimental physicist turned engineer. His primary research focus was on the quantum behavior of the materials responsible for lasers used in nanometer scale photolithography for modern semiconductor industries. He also studied the quantum characteristics of Neptune’s and Uranus’ atmospheres by recreating their environments under laboratory conditions.
As an engineer, his professional work directly impacted our daily lives. He helped lay the foundation for the current high-speed communications infrastructure, particularly the optical portion, enabling the massive Internet traffic for streaming, IoT, data storage, etc.
He became a corporate executive in later years and taught graduate-level engineering courses at Stanford University as a visiting professor. He is also an entrepreneur and investor in high-tech industries.
As a prolific technical journal writer with over 100 peer-reviewed publications to his credit, Chris has turned his attention to popular science writing in recent years.
Chris is an avid reader, traveler, hiker, Tai Chi practitioner, and a high handicap golf enthusiast. He makes his home in Northern California with his wife, Wendy, a tabby cat, Meowmy, and a golden retriever, Buddy.
