Richard H Thomas is a Professor of Journalism and a writer, historian and researcher with a passion for cricket, news, politics and elections. From his office near the beach at Swansea University, he is is not only within arm's reach of the sea, but is only a cricket ball throw from the famous old ground where Garry Sobers hit six sixes on a bright August day of 1968. Ever since, Richard has loved the sound of the sea lapping on the shore, and the sound of bat on ball. Elections might definitely tell you who won or lost on the day but deciding the best batsmen or bowlers is more important than electing a government. Cricket needs to be discussed at length and is best attempted with friends, in the sunshine. The fact that nobody will agree is half the fun – the mix of fantastic heroes, villains, eccentrics and journeymen make it the best game in the world.
