Cathy Mayes

Cathy lives in Cornwall, on the family farm where she was brought up. Her working life was all about working with horses, children and young people. She became a lecturer in child care and development, for ten years before taking on a staff development role in Children's services.

Cathy has always loved horses, riding, and teaching/helping others to develop their own skills. Now retired she is an author, and about to publish her sixth book. Matt and Pandora. The Finale.

Cathy likes to write non-fiction books and says there is so much around us that is fun and interesting to write about, and worth sharing with others. It is a way of keeping memories safe, People say never work with children and animals, Cathy has done both and loved every minute of it, the fun, laughter and relationships are so full of amazing stories to share. Cathy loves reading a variety of genre and recently has immersed herself in Indi author books. She loves reading both fiction and non fiction, travel, anything to do with Africa, and of course some romantic novels as well.

Cathy's books, all non-fictions, ‘White Horses and Sunbeams’ the first about family and being brought up in Cornwall. A story of four generations who have lived in, worked, and enjoyed the diversity that this beautiful county has to offer.

The second, ‘Matt and Pandora’ is about one of her grandsons, his passion for horse riding and how he builds a beautiful, trusting relationship with his very first pony, Pandora.

The third book, ‘Out of The Quill Box’ is about her personal journey, searching for her past, and her birth parents. Sometimes she felt like a square peg in a round hole, not whole, searching for something, and not knowing what.

She has been on a peregrination of discovery that has taken her across the UK, and to South Africa in search of her history. She feels, she has grown in knowledge and confidence through her travels and her truth.

She needed to write her story, for her children, her grandchildren, for herself. She says, her family are the best of her, they are part of her and of her past.

The fourth book is 'Wallace and Me' it is about living with a very special horse. It has some great photos and you can see Wallace and his companion Barney in action, on her Cathy Mayes Author Facebook page!

The fifth book is 'One Week in May, on the beautiful Isles of Scilly'. This is set on St Martins island where Cathy and her traveling companion Rosy have stayed for a couple of years now, with their dogs Bertie and Misty. It takes you on a tour of the island and some of the other islands visited, dipping into some of the history of the archipelagos.

The sixth, due in the next couple of months is Matt and Pandora, The Finale. This books takes you through the ups and downs of having ponies, growing up, in height and age. The heart breaks of saying goodbye. and the development of pony and rider.
