Robert Monda began writing poems when his fourth grade teacher, Miss Burke, gave his class the assignment to write one. A year earlier, the poet's mother had given him Immortal Poems of the English Language, edited by Oscar Williams. He had read the anthology twice, yet had never thought to write a poem himself—until Miss Burke assigned it. As he read his poem to the class, Monda knew that the writing of poems would fill his life.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Robert attended Montclair State College and graduated from William Paterson University with a degree in English. He now resides with his wife, artist and poet Robin Locke Monda, in Staten Island, New York.
