Fred Allen was raised in North Dakota where he learned to love wide open spaces, an uncluttered horizon, and a huge sky. In 1979, during a brutally cold winter, he had a serious God encounter, one which radically transformed him and shifted the trajectory of his life. Ever since, he has grappled with the profound implications of a crucified and risen savior and the very real presence of a living God.
Fred has a graduate degree in English literature and has taught at both the high school and university levels. He has also been a pastor—though not a very good one. Fred now heads up Burning Bush Ministries, a small missions organization based in Salem, Oregon, which has taken him around the world.
In addition to writing poetry, Fred has published many cartoons and magazine articles, and has written a number of stage plays and musicals. (He is still waiting for his big Broadway break.) He likes coffee and toast for breakfast, quiet evenings, and a good book.
Fred lives with his pretty wife in Salem, Oregon.
