Kate Heap

Kate has always loved books, her childhood imagination shaped by the adventures found within their pages. Now, as both a teacher and a parent, one of her greatest joys is sharing her love of literature with children.

Born and raised in Canada, Kate began her teaching career with Regina Public Schools before moving to the UK in 2001 in pursuit of new adventures. Over twenty years in the classroom, she has dedicated herself to guiding children through the world of learning and working in partnership with other educators to do the very best they can for the children in their care. Her extensive experience includes supporting primary school teachers as a Literacy Leader, Leading Literacy Teacher for Leeds, Advanced Skills Teacher for English and a senior leader overseeing English and Assessment.

As a Primary English Consultant, Kate is now able to share her knowledge and enthusiasm even further. Through her blog, Scope for Imagination, she reviews children's literature and collaborates with authors and publishers to share outstanding books. She is passionate about helping teachers, parents, and children discover just the right books to inspire a love of reading.

Kate is the author of the Developing Reading Comprehension Skills series, a collection of classroom resources designed to support both students and educators in meeting key learning objectives and preparing for assessments—while fostering a genuine love of literature.
