Dr. Kala Singh is medical graduate from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi University, India. He worked in Africa i.e. Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana for 21 years as Psychiatric Doctor before immigrating and immigrated to Canada. He worked with Vancouver Coastal Health and Fraser Health and now retired. He has written articles on mental health and social issues affecting Indo-Canadian Community, such as youth problem, elderly abuse, women abuse, domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, broken marriages, gang violence, mental health problems and ‘role of Sikh religion in mental health’, in the local Punjabi and English newspapers. He has appeared in live radio and TV talk shows on those issues. He has been invited to speak on these issues in different Gurdwaras, youth camps, senior’s centers, schools and by different organizations. Dr. Singh incorporated Sikh Spirituality in Western model of counselling. He presented a paper in World Federation for Mental Health, held in Vancouver on “Sikh Religious and Spiritual Dimensions of Mental Health” and presented a paper on “Causes and Prevention of Suicide in South Asians in Canada”. Dr. Singh published a paper “The Sikh Spiritual Model of Counseling” in a medical journal “Spirituality and Health International”. He has been awarded by different organizations including Pravasi Rattan at Global Convention of NRIs in British Parliament and is Executive Member (Secretary) of Multi-Faith Summit Council of BC. He is a physician, community activist, Sikh scholar, television personality and motivational speaker.
