Robert G. Cathcart

Robert G. Cathcart is a dedicated local historian and practicing author with deep roots in the North Ayrshire Coast. Growing up in Skelmorlie from 1965, his work is rooted in meticulously archiving the social and architectural heritage of the villages spanning Inverkip to Fairlie. Robert is a prolific researcher specialising in the history of the Firth of Clyde. He combines traditional chronological study with pioneering digital restoration techniques to bring antique postcards and historical records back to life. This methodology forms the basis of his acclaimed bibliography, including the comprehensive historical chronology Timeline of a Coastline (2021) and the pictorial history series A Walk Back in Time. As a passionate archivist, Robert founded and administers the digital archive Old Pictures from Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay, where he has curated thousands of images since 2014.
