Mr Roger Kendall

Having retired from running the family business, Roger enjoys writing a wide genre, adventure books for children, children's fantasy, and historical romance. Was falling in love it easier in Regency times? Society expectations and women's limited rights in an age of elegance, manners and status made finding that "one" particularly vital yet no easier than today.

Look out for his latest book, which has recently been published! Available on Amazon now. He needs some good reviews so please buy and comment!

"The Reluctant Governess," is set at the end of the regency where the rich are still rich and the servants do the work but when Sir Osebury loses his fortune and most of his friends, the family must adapt to survive. For Anne, a difficult argumentative 17 year old, it is a shock. Against her parents wishes she struggles to make her own way as a governess. As the realities of her new situation sinks in, she must fight for her position and the chance for romance. The industrial age has begun but in the drawing rooms of the wealthy it is hardly mentioned, except by Anne, who has yet to learn when to stay silent.

Enjoy the elegant settings, wonder at the easy small world of the gentry, laugh at their hypocrisy, and stay with Anne as she discovers herself and resolves to make her own future. A clean, delightful look at beautiful dresses and chivalrous gentlemen. This is a close door romance with no explicit content.

Writing can be hard work but it's fun, creating engaging characters, and discovering how they cope with the problems you give them. Romantic relationships between a man and a woman are more than just chemistry. The wonderful discovery of love, between the most unlikely people, remains a mystery to be explored and enjoyed. As does the history of Britain and its people. Forgotten disasters and adventures can be woven into great stories to reveal how earlier generations managed, survived, and prospered.

Look out for the next book in 2024, "A Daughters Duty." When Mary escapes from the drudgery of caring for her father and becomes companion to a childhood friend, the troubles begin to start. She knows she is plain and finding a settled situation will be difficult. As she travels from the drawing rooms of England, to the battlefield of Waterloo, she must seek to understand the world of the upper classes and cope with her capricious friend. Danger threatens their friendship but provides the opportunity for romance as they follow the army to Paris.

Run Boy Run is set among the gangs of London and is an exciting read for older boys but language, and violence is contained.
