Becoming an author had never entered Marla's mind as she entered her seventh decade. Then life changing events crept in with stealth and intrigue which would transform her forever. A burgeoning story developed and threatened to destroy her faith and maybe even her life. God met her cries for help in unique and miraculous ways as an intense knowing in her spirit led her to put pen to paper resulting in this book, "Grief is Not My Future."
As she slid her toe over the threshold of her first writing workshop to enter the strange new world of authors and wordsmiths, she met a key person who would become her cheerleader and dear friend. This connection also opened a pathway into a small upstart writer's group in Calhoun, Georgia, Calhoun Area Writers. She had found "her people."
She has published stories in three of CAW's anthologies, "Telling Stories" 1, 2, and 3, available on Amazon. She has taken part in valuable critique groups as a member and also led them as her skills increased. As an active member of CAW, she has taken part in the creation of three Northwest Georgia's Writers yearly conferences. Closer to home in Kennesaw, Ga., she's a member of GWA, Georgia Writer's Association and the Christian Authors Guild, CAG.
With a unique appreciation and valuable insights of the friendships she's developed over many years, her writing skills bless them with handmade cards and personalized birthday messages. Friends and family find them heart-warming and endearing.
Marla spent most of her life in music education and ministry while raising a family of three daughters with her husband, Keith, in Marietta, Ga. Spare time finds her in the kitchen where she delights in creating delicious homemade meals for her family. Handing down her musical talents and love of music to her grandson, Robert Paul, is one of her greatest delights. She states he's become quite a musician at the piano and saxophone. He's collected three guitars and beginning to pick away at those also. Cherished moments with all six of her grands brings laugh-out-loud moments of joy.
Other activities she enjoys are hiking, exploring trails in North Georgia, aqua aerobics classes, walking with a good book playing on Audible, and of course reading, lots of reading.
A website is in process: "Rocking Chair Conversations," a comfy place of compassion and grace where you'll be invited to come share your heart and your story.
