Eric M. Johnson

One of Goodreads “First-Time Novelists to Discover in 2021,” Eric M. Johnson is an American journalist, author, and outdoorsman. Born and raised in Chicago, he now lives in Seattle, where he writes about Boeing and the billionaire space race for Reuters News.

His first novel, Whenever a Happy Thing Falls, a withering account of a recent graduate’s toxic life at an elite investment bank, was published on March 2, 2021 from Cloud Hands Press. The book draws on his experience working as a financial analyst in Chicago and living for a college semester in London.

His current journalistic focus is aerospace – from Boeing’s 737 MAX crisis to Elon Musk’s SpaceX – and he has covered former President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, breaking national news, and transportation since joining Reuters in 2011 in Chicago.

He has also been a staff reporter for Sun-Times Media Group and covered sports for the Observer, in London.

He graduated in 2006 from Albion College in Michigan, where he studied economics and English and played soccer.

He lives in Seattle and rural Ellensburg, Washington with his wife and two children. He spends his free time fly-fishing and hunting across the U.S. Northwest.
