Amber Stott writes about our food system—and takes action to fix it. She built Food Literacy Center, a nonprofit for kids, by inspiring them to do the impossible: eat their vegetables! She worked with legislators to pass a statewide California resolution declaring every September as Food Literacy Awareness Month, and she rallied California’s 13th largest school district (out of 1,000!) to build students a zero-net energy cooking school.
The California legislature honored her efforts with Nonprofit of the Year, and the state’s Department of Public Health named her one of the state’s top innovators in early childhood health interventions. Her program works!
Stott hosts the podcast Raising Kale, has given a TEDx Talk about Building Broccoli Habits, has waded knee-deep in California rice fields with farmers, and made salmon tacos over a fire on a remote Alaskan beach. She eats cactus, runs along river trails, and hikes miles with her husband through the wilderness.
