From Better with Age: Creativity, Discovery & Surprise (2020):
Robert Bersson, born 1946, Honolulu, Hawaii
Robert Bersson (aka Bob, Gampy, Don R) is a musician, writer, visual artist, and lifelong educator. Born in Hawaii but raised in Brooklyn and Spring Valley, New York, he moved to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in 1980 to teach a wide range of art courses at James Madison University. A community activist on issues from downtown revitalization and open, responsive government to greenways and bike/pedestrian pathways, he has probably set the record for the most opinion pieces and letters submitted to his local newspaper over a forty-year period. A Jewish agnostic in awe of the universe and its mysteries, Bob and his wife Dolores Shoup have lived the past seventeen years in a countryside home surrounded by Old Order Mennonite cornfields. They have two adult sons, Jordan and Silas, and four grandchildren, Jack, Bizzy, Teddy, and Sarah.
Education: Brandeis University, State University of New York at New Paltz, University of Maryland, College Park.
