Henna Quill is a poet and inspired being. She is a mixture of mind, body, and spirit – and she pours each part of her into her poetry. Henna’s work is about her readers, it is purposed to plant seeds of awakening, choice, and autonomy, which in turn stir drafts of liberation. None of us get everything right every time, and we are not supposed to. We are supposed to live, learn, and hold both our wins and our losses. Living life in a way that arcs towards balance is healthy and obtainable. This is Henna’s truth, and she shares this truth with her audiences in untainted, raw, and refined poetry that provokes thought and action. Choose, Live, Be.
Henna Quill is also a product of exposure to poverty, mental illness, domestic violence, and abuse. She is a product of lovingly and frustratingly parenting brilliant children with unique considerations, singly for twenty-five years. She is a product of a deeply prayerful and faithful family. She is the product of rising above trauma and despair, to shape her life into what she deems it to be. She chooses to be internally driven, educated, kind, and optimistic.
Henna Quill pinpoints that her longing for a relationship came from society – it was external pressure from an external construct that she internalized. Henna eventually understood the need to, and liberation in, de-subscribing from the linear corridors that many societies shove us into; and how this linear thinking extends beyond relationships into most aspects of life including beauty, motherhood, fatherhood, work life imbalance, career options, education, race, religion, gender, health, lifestyle, politics, disability, personality, etc. To all this Henna says – Choose your autonomy, be tethered to nothing, be tethered to nothing else.
