I was a teacher for 27 years, and also a part-time writer for the last eight of those years. I foolishly took on the headship of a school where most of the teachers were more trouble than any of the pupils, and after nine dreadful months quit to see if I could survive as a full-time writer. I did.
I wrote Children’s Fiction, short stories for women’s magazines and Radio 4’s Morning Story, many non-fiction books for Hulton-Getty, including The Decades series, scripts for radio and TV, Bluffer’s Guides and comedy. I joined a bunch of unarmed Gagsters who wrote for Frankie Howerd, for Jasper Carrott, for Russ Abbott, for Ken Dodd - for anyone who’d pay us
Nearly forty years later, I published the first volume of my autobiography - Memoirs of a Maladjusted Teacher. Though there are more to come, the latest publication is The Bible Cookbook.
