Hello, I hope you are well and enjoying life to the full. I have been keeping many different tropical fish for over fifty years, and many of them breeding fish in the aquarium trade to a local wholesaler. When faced with the king of the aquarium, the Discus fish, my life changed forever. This led to me setting up my own business ‘Plymouth Discus’ which has taken me to the other side of the world and back. This also led to bringing out my own brand of foods ‘Discus Delights’ and many other products you just can’t get in the standard aquatic shop. I was also the very first to bring out the UK’s first legal licenced aquarium wormer, ‘Wormer Plus’ which many has been quick to copy and sell for themselves!

In 2003, I came runner up in the best South West business start up as a sole trader in my home City of Plymouth in the South West of England with my then new business ‘Plymouth Discus’. With the help of my son Ricki who worked and helped me tirelessly in the early days on my website, which won the Golden web awards in 2003. From 2008 my Brother Paul took over the website and added an online shop which helped grow the business further.

Before the magazine ceased trading, I was asked to be the Discus writer and expert for over nine years in Tropical Fish magazine which was the launch pad for my first book, Discus World, a complete guide for the Discus Keeper. I have also been guest writer for Tropical fish hobbyist magazine and also appeared in Practical Fish Keeping magazine writing on Discus. I have attended and competed in Discus shows around the World as Far as the Far East in Singapore and Taiwan. I also toured many fish farms several times looking for the very best places to source my own Discus stock to bring back to the UK. Since then, I have been busy writing a brand-new second sister book that was published in May 2024 called 'A Reference Guide to the Discus World', with a third new book due out later this year.

I don't claim to be a biologist, Chemist, Photographer or an English teacher. I just use my knowledge gained and common sense to share the best I can with what I have learnt with over fifty year’s experience in the fish keeping hobby, with over twenty one of them in the Discus fish trade. I have decided to put all my knowledge into three Discus books. The first one has been out fifteen years already, and has just been republished into a new 3rd Edition, 15th year anniversary special. Along with a new editor and designer, my daughter Mandi who has ironed out a few things with the first two editions.
