Vivian Uwakwe

Vivian Uwakwe is a Nigerian children's book author, illustrator, and animator who creates culturally authentic stories that celebrate African voices through engaging characters, humour, and vibrant illustrations. Inspired by the stories her father shared during her childhood and later by fostering a six-year-old who struggled to read, she is passionate about creating books that spark imagination, nurture curiosity, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Her debut picture book, How The Tortoise Broke Its Shell, reached No. 1 in Amazon's Children's African Folk Tales & Myths category. Since then, she has written original stories and stories inspired by African storytelling traditions, each paired with a companion activity and colouring book that extends learning through creativity and play.

In addition to creating her own books, Vivian illustrates for authors and organisations, visits schools to share stories and promote literacy, and is expanding her storytelling into animation. Through her work, she hopes to help children everywhere discover the richness, humour, and diversity of African stories.
